Black and white locked in a fight on raw linen, every brushstroke swung with the full arm. The black masses push in from the edges, the white pushes back, and where they collide the paint is thick enough to cast shadows. Raw canvas shows through like skin beneath the violence. Kline's ghost is in here, and so is something more personal. Monochrome at war with itself, and somehow both sides are winning.
